Reverse Engineering an Oracle Table In ODI is something that you can use to create a replica of an Oracle table and use it as mapping or any other purpose. In this blog we will see the steps needed:
- Login to ODI and go to the Topology tab.
- We will create a connection from Oracle database to ODI in Topology.
- Go to Physical Architecture -> Technologies. Then right–click on Oracle. Select New Data server.
- Provide the Name and Username/Password in Definition tab.
- Go to JDBC tab, select the appropriate JDBC driver and update the JDBC URL details and Save.
- Right click on the recently created Data Server and select ‘New Physical Schema’.
- Select the appropriate Schema and Work Schema from the drop down menu and Save.
- Go to Logical Architecture and Right click on Oracle Technology. Select ‘New Logical Schema’.
- Give an appropriate name and map the Physical Schema with the Context as shown below. Save the updates.
- Go to Designer Tab->Models
- Create a new Model Folder and give and appropriate name.
- Right click the newly created Model folder and select ‘New Model’.
- Provide a name for the Model, select Technology as Oracle and select the Logical Schema created in the previous step.
- Go to Reverse Engineer tab and provide the table name under ‘Mask’ column. The name provided in this case is EMP. Make sure that the ‘Characters to Remove from Table Alias’ is blank.
- Click on Reverse Engineer at the top left.
- After the reverse engineering process completes, a new datastore is created with ‘EMP’ name under the Model as shown below.
- Double click on the datastore and go to Attributes tab.
- The metadata of the table from DB is created here with the same column name, types and length.
